Adam’s Peak
Sri Lanka’s most sacred mountain pilgrimage destination, famous for its breathtaking sunrise, spiritual importance, and unforgettable overnight hiking experience.
About Adam’s Peak
Adam’s Peak, also known as Sri Pada, is one of Sri Lanka’s most sacred and iconic mountains. Rising to approximately 2,243 meters above sea level, the mountain attracts thousands of pilgrims and travelers every year.
The mountain is famous for the sacred footprint located at its summit. Buddhists believe it is the footprint of Lord Buddha, while Hindus, Christians, and Muslims associate it with their own religious traditions, making Adam’s Peak an important multi-religious pilgrimage destination.
The journey to the summit usually begins at night from Nallathanniya, allowing hikers to reach the peak before sunrise. Thousands of illuminated steps guide visitors through forests, tea estates, and mountain landscapes.
One of the most unforgettable moments at Adam’s Peak is watching the sunrise from above the clouds. As the sun rises, a rare triangular shadow of the mountain appears across the surrounding mist-covered valleys.
During the pilgrimage season from December to May, the route becomes lively with food stalls, resting points, and spiritual activities, creating a unique cultural atmosphere.
Adam’s Peak is not only a spiritual destination but also one of Sri Lanka’s most rewarding hiking experiences for nature lovers, photographers, and adventure travelers.
