About Pidurangala Rock
Pidurangala Rock is one of Sri Lanka’s most famous hiking and viewpoint destinations, located near the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress in the Matale District. Rising dramatically above the surrounding forests, the rock offers one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the country.
The site has deep historical and religious significance dating back more than 2,000 years. At the base of the rock lies the ancient Pidurangala Temple, which was closely connected to King Kashyapa during the construction of Sigiriya Rock Fortress.
The hike to the summit passes through temple pathways, stone staircases, forest trails, and large boulders. Near the top, visitors must climb across massive rocks, adding a sense of adventure to the experience.
Pidurangala is especially famous for its incredible sunrise and sunset scenery. From the summit, travelers can enjoy unmatched views of Sigiriya Rock rising above green forests, lakes, and distant mountain ranges.
