Lipton’s Seat
One of Sri Lanka’s most famous panoramic viewpoints, offering breathtaking sunrise views over endless tea plantations and misty mountain ranges.
About Lipton’s Seat
Lipton’s Seat is one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic viewpoints, located in the Haputale mountain range. It was once the favorite observation point of Sir Thomas Lipton, the founder of the famous Lipton tea brand.
From this viewpoint, visitors can see sweeping panoramic views of tea plantations stretching across multiple districts including Badulla, Monaragala, Hambantota, and even parts of the southern coastline on clear days.
The location is surrounded by lush tea estates, and the journey itself passes through scenic plantations where tea pluckers can often be seen at work.
The best experience is during sunrise, when the entire valley is covered in mist and slowly reveals layers of green hills as the sun rises over the horizon, creating a “sea of clouds” effect.
Lipton’s Seat remains one of the most important tea tourism destinations in Sri Lanka, combining history, nature, and breathtaking scenery.
